City Tour Happy Train
With a sense of anticipation, I boarded the City Tour Happy Train for a ride through Nafplio's old town. The little train chugged along the cobblestone streets, passing by iconic landmarks like the Land Gate and the Bavarian Lion. The audio guide provided interesting commentary in both Greek and English, sharing historical tidbits and local insights. It was a relaxing way to see the town and get a different perspective on its beauty. The train was clean and well kept with plastic windows for wind rain.Explore Nafplio's history and beauty aboard the City Tour Happy Train, a fun and scenic journey through Greece's enchanting port town.
Sometimes, the best way to understand a place is to let it unfold before you, one landmark at a time.
Journey to Epidaurus
After the train tour, I embarked on a journey to the Archaeological Museum of the Asclepieion of Epidaurus. The bus ride itself was scenic, winding through the Argolis countryside, with olive groves and rolling hills stretching as far as the eye could see. Hans would have loved this drive; he always appreciates the beauty of the countryside.Archaeological Museum of the Asclepieion of Epidaurus
Arriving at Epidaurus, I was immediately struck by the sense of history that permeated the air. The Archaeological Museum houses a remarkable collection of finds from the Sanctuary of Asclepius, one of the most important healing centers of the ancient world.Explore the rich heritage of ancient Greece at the Archaeological Museum of the Asclepieion of Epidaurus, showcasing artifacts from a historic healing center.
The museum itself is one of the oldest archaeological museums in Greece. Inside, I marveled at the ancient artifacts, including sculptures, inscriptions, and votive offerings. Each piece told a story of the people who sought healing and solace at this sacred site. As an archivist, I was particularly fascinated by the inscriptions, which provided valuable insights into the beliefs and practices of the time.
I spent hours wandering through the museum, carefully examining each exhibit and imagining what life must have been like in ancient Epidaurus. The museum is not large, but the artifacts are displayed densely. The attention to detail in the ancient sculptures was incredible, and I found myself captivated by the skill and artistry of the ancient Greeks. I was able to appreciate the artifacts and what they meant.
Lunch at Karamalis Tavern
By lunchtime, I was ready for a hearty meal. I chose Karamalis Tavern, a local favorite known for its traditional Greek cuisine. I ordered a classic Greek salad with ripe tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and feta cheese, drizzled with olive oil and a sprinkle of oregano. The salad was fresh and flavorful, a perfect representation of the region's culinary heritage. Evening Reflections and Dinner at BOUNOS
