Today was a day of diving deep into what makes San Gimignano so special. From contemporary art to ancient piazzas, and of course, the incredible Tuscan cuisine, it was a sensory overload in the best possible way. I was excited to explore the artistic and historical corners of this medieval town with Ana and Luka, and San Gimignano certainly didn't disappoint.



Our day began with a hearty breakfast at dulcisinfundo. I’ve always believed that a good breakfast is the foundation for a great day of exploring, and this place set us up perfectly. The atmosphere was cozy, and the food was delightful. I opted for a traditional Tuscan pastry, while Ana enjoyed a cappuccino, and Luka devoured a croissant. What I particularly appreciated was their commitment to local, seasonal products, which really shone through in the flavors. It's amazing to see a restaurant so dedicated to preserving and showcasing the culinary traditions of Tuscany.


With our stomachs full and our spirits high, we set off to Galleria Continua. Now, I'll admit, contemporary art isn't always my forte, but this gallery was something else. Housed in a former cinema-theater, the space itself was fascinating. The installations by various international artists were thought-provoking, and even Luka seemed intrigued by the displays. I found myself particularly drawn to the works of Ai Weiwei, whose pieces sparked conversations about the intersection of art, history, and society. Ana, with her architect's eye, appreciated how the art interacted with the unique architecture of the gallery.

After immersing ourselves in the contemporary art scene, we decided to take a step back in time at Piazza Sant'Agostino. This piazza offered a serene escape from the bustling streets, and it felt like stepping into a postcard. The Church of Sant'Agostino dominates the square, and its simple yet striking façade drew us in. Inside, we were greeted by an abundance of art, making it feel like a museum. The architecture seamlessly blends Romanesque and Gothic styles, creating a unique atmosphere. I found myself captivated by the frescoes, imagining the stories they held from centuries past. Ana pointed out the intricate details in the architecture, while Luka was fascinated by the sheer size of the church. It's moments like these that make traveling with family so rewarding, sharing in the wonder and discovery together.

We took our time wandering through the space, appreciating the tranquility and reflecting on the history we were surrounded by. It’s amazing how a place can hold so much history and inspire a sense of calm and contemplation.

After a morning filled with art and history, it was time for lunch. We chose Ristorante San Martino 26 , and it turned out to be an excellent choice. This trendy restaurant, nestled in the wine cellars of an old palazzo, had a fashionable feel that immediately caught our attention. The ambiance was intimate and charming, and the staff were incredibly attentive. I opted for the tasting menu, which was a culinary journey of innovative flavors and textures. Ana, who has gluten intolerance, was delighted that they took her dietary needs into account without compromising on flavor. Luka enjoyed a simpler pasta dish, which he declared to be the best he's ever had. The presentation of each dish was a work of art in itself, and the flavors were simply divine. It’s clear that the chef has a passion for creating unique and memorable dining experiences.

I was immediately drawn to the vibrant colors and intricate designs of the ceramics, each piece telling a story. Ana found a beautiful hand-painted bowl for our kitchen, while Luka picked out a small ceramic animal as a memento of our trip. The staff were friendly and helpful, sharing insights into the craftsmanship and history behind each item. It's wonderful to support local artisans and take home a piece of San Gimignano's artistic heritage.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Ristorante Fuoriluogo for dinner. This restaurant, located away from the center of town, offered a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. We sat on the outdoor patio, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and the pleasant evening breeze. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. I ordered the Tagliolini al tartufo, which was simply divine. The pasta was perfectly cooked, and the truffle sauce was rich and flavorful. Ana enjoyed the pici all'aglione e crema di pomodoro, a classic Tuscan dish with simple yet elegant flavors. Luka devoured the tortellacci di cinghiale e carbonara, which was stuffed with wild boar and served in a carbonara cream. For dessert, we shared a tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to a perfect meal. Ristorante Fuoriluogo truly exceeded our expectations, offering a culinary experience that we will cherish for years to come.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we plan to visit the Museum of Sacred Art, seek out a beautiful viewpoint, and relax in a park with a statue. I'm also hoping to find a moment to sample some local wines at Gustavo Mescita Vini Enoteca. It promises to be another day filled with exploration and discovery.


Today was a reminder of why we love to travel as a family. The shared experiences, the new discoveries, and the moments of connection are priceless.
