Ciao for Now, Cinque Terre!

As our train pulled away from the Cinque Terre this evening, a bittersweet feeling washed over me. Nine days have flown by, filled with vibrant colors, breathtaking views, and the simple joys of Italian coastal life. Hans and I packed so much into this trip, and as much as I am looking forward to returning to Berlin, a part of me will forever remain on those winding trails and in those charming villages.

Our final day began with a delightful breakfast at Trattoria Via dell'Amore in Riomaggiore. The aroma of fresh-baked bread and strong Italian coffee filled the air, setting the perfect tone for our last exploration. We savored every bite, knowing it would be our last taste of Cinque Terre for a while.

Fueled up, we decided to spend our morning revisiting the Cinque Terre National Park. I wanted to etch those views into my memory. The crisp February air was invigorating as we set off, camera in hand, ready to capture the beauty one last time. Though the crowds were thin, there was a palpable sense of peace and tranquility that I absolutely loved. The landscape, even in the relative quiet of winter, held an undeniable magic.

Our main goal for the morning was to experience the newly reopened Via dell'Amore. After being closed for so long due to a landslide, I was excited to walk this iconic path. The path was indeed open and accessible with the purchase of the Cinque Terre Card, and it was easy to see why it's called the Path of Love. The views were stunning, and the gentle stroll between Riomaggiore and Manarola was the perfect way to reflect on our journey. The fresh air and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks made it incredibly romantic.

After our morning walk, we found ourselves in Corniglia for lunch. We chose Il Buongustaio Cucina Casalinga, a charming spot known for its authentic Ligurian cuisine. The restaurant was cozy and inviting, and the aroma of home-cooked meals filled the air. We shared a seafood risotto and some spaghetti vongole, both of which were absolutely divine. The ingredients were so fresh, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. It was the perfect meal to end our culinary adventures in Cinque Terre.

In the afternoon, we ventured to Monterosso, where we discovered the Torre Aurora. Perched on a rocky spur overlooking the sea, this ancient tower offered panoramic views of the coastline. We learned that it was built in the 16th century to defend the village from pirates. Today, it houses a lounge bar and restaurant. While we didn't go inside, we enjoyed taking photos of the tower and the surrounding landscape.

As the sun began to set, we made our way to Vernazza for a final aperitivo. We settled in at Torre Aurora (yes, another one!), a bar known for its stunning views and delicious cocktails. Sipping on Aperol spritzes, we watched as the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant colors. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Cinque Terre.

This trip has been more than just a vacation; it's been an immersion into a different way of life. I've learned to slow down, appreciate the simple things, and savor every moment. The colorful villages, the friendly locals, and the stunning natural beauty have all left an indelible mark on my soul. I even found myself inspired by the local knitting patterns, jotting down ideas for future projects.

I’ve always believed in sustainable travel, and I’m happy that we managed to keep our footprint light during this trip. From using reusable water bottles to supporting local businesses, every small effort counts. It aligns perfectly with my values and makes the experience even more meaningful. It's important to remember that we are visitors in these communities, and we should always strive to leave them better than we found them.

Reflecting on our time here, I realize how much Cinque Terre embodies the Danish concept of hygge – that feeling of coziness, connection, and contentment. It's in the warmth of the Italian sun, the taste of the local wine, and the shared laughter with Hans as we navigated the cobblestone streets. These are the moments I will cherish long after we return to Berlin.

While our Cinque Terre adventure has come to an end, I know this is not a final goodbye. We will be back, perhaps in a different season, to explore more of this beautiful region. Until then, I will carry the memories of Cinque Terre in my heart, and I will continue to share our experiences with you, my dear readers. Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey.

As we prepare to leave Italy, I can’t help but feel grateful for the experiences we’ve shared. This trip has not only strengthened our bond as a couple but has also enriched our lives in countless ways. I am already looking forward to planning our next adventure, wherever that may be.

And as for tomorrow? Well, tomorrow we head back to Berlin, filled with memories and inspiration. It's time to return to our daily routines, but with a renewed sense of appreciation for the beauty that exists in the world. And who knows, maybe I'll even start knitting a Cinque Terre-inspired scarf!

Ciao for now, Cinque Terre. Until we meet again!
