A Day of Discovery in Røros
Today was all about immersing ourselves in the rich tapestry of Røros, a town that effortlessly blends historical significance with the serene beauty of Norwegian nature. It was a day of exploration, from delving into the town's architectural heritage to witnessing the raw power of a local waterfall. The crisp September air added a touch of magic, making every moment feel like a scene from a storybook.
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Gjetbergsvollen Restaurant. It's a cozy spot, and it set the perfect tone for a day of exploration. I went for the traditional Norwegian breakfast, while some of my friends opted for something a bit more familiar. Fuelled up, we were ready to explore the day's itinerary.

Our first stop was the Rørosmuseet Bygningsvernsenteret. Now, I've always had a soft spot for architecture, especially when it tells a story. This place was a treasure trove of traditional Norwegian craftsmanship. The center focuses on preserving building heritage, construction practices, and traditional building crafts. Wandering through the exhibits, I was struck by the dedication to maintaining cultural heritage, something I deeply admire. The intricate woodwork and the stories behind each building were absolutely captivating. I even picked up a few ideas for some homebrewing projects, thinking about how I could incorporate some of these traditional elements into my brewing space back in Heidelberg. I am always looking for inspiration and new ideas, and this place had them in spades. Plus, I learned that the Bygningsvernsenteret often hosts workshops, which is something I'd love to participate in someday.

Exploring Røros is like stepping back in time, where every corner tells a story of resilience, craftsmanship, and the enduring spirit of its people. After soaking in the architectural wonders, we decided to embrace the natural beauty surrounding Røros. Our next destination was the Eidfossen Wasserfall. The drive there was scenic, with rolling hills and quaint farms dotting the landscape. As we approached the waterfall, the sound of rushing water grew louder, building anticipation. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Eidfossen is a powerful cascade of water, surrounded by lush greenery. The mist in the air created a refreshing coolness, and the sheer force of the water was mesmerizing. I couldn't resist snapping a few photos, trying to capture the raw energy of the falls. I am not sure I succeeded, but it was fun trying. Some of the guys even hiked a bit to get different vantage points, while I was content just soaking in the view from a comfortable distance. The Eidfossen Wasserfall is conveniently located close to the main roads.

Lunch was at Tufta Kro. After all that fresh air, we had worked up quite an appetite. This place was a great spot to refuel. The atmosphere was cozy, and the food was hearty and delicious. I opted for a traditional Norwegian dish, eager to try more of the local cuisine. It was the perfect midday pick-me-up. I remember Lena mentioning how much she would have loved this place, so I made a mental note to bring her here someday.

As evening approached, we found ourselves at Berkel og Bar for dinner. Located in the heart of Røros, this gastropub is known for its wide selection of beers and tasty food. It was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of exploring. The ambiance was lively, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I decided to sample some local brews, while others in our group enjoyed the gastropub fare. The combination of good food, great beer, and lively conversation made for a memorable evening. It reminded me of the pubs back in Heidelberg, where friends gather to share stories and laughter. I even spotted a few locals, which is always a good sign.

To cap off the night, we ventured to Skanckebua Bar & Restaurant. This place has soul and atmosphere, located right in the middle of Kjerkgata. The cozy bar upstairs offered views of the street, where we enjoyed coffee, good food and drinks. Apparently, Skanckebua is known for its vibrant atmosphere, making it a great spot for both small groups and friends. I could see why. The energy was infectious, and it was the perfect way to end a day of exploration. I even chatted with a local craftsman who shared some fascinating stories about the town's history. It's moments like these that make traveling so rewarding. It is always nice to connect with the locals and learn about their stories.

Reflecting on the day, I realized how much Røros has to offer. It's a town that respects its past while embracing the present. The blend of historical architecture, stunning natural landscapes, and warm hospitality is truly captivating. As I sit here, writing this blog post, I can't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to experience this unique corner of Norway.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we're planning to explore Evensenegga and Oddentunet [If last day of trip, merge in “Trip end”]. I've heard great things about both places, and I'm eager to discover more of Røros's hidden gems. We'll start with breakfast at Lysstråle As, followed by lunch at Rørosrein, and dinner at Røros Hotell. And of course, we'll make sure to stop by Lanullva Røros AS for some local shopping [If last day of trip, merge in “Trip end”].
Until then, good night from Røros!
P.S. I almost forgot! I did forget my portable charger and raincoat! I will need to pick those up tomorrow!
