Exploring Gros Morne's Wildlife Museum, hiking the Eastern Point Trail, and savoring local flavors—a day of Newfoundland adventures!
A Day of Discovery in Gros Morne
Today was a day of contrasts and delightful surprises here in Gros Morne National Park. From exploring local wildlife to hiking scenic trails and indulging in Newfoundland’s culinary offerings, it was a day that truly captured the essence of this beautiful region. I set out eager to uncover some of the park's hidden gems, and Gros Morne certainly delivered!
My day began with a hearty breakfast at The Old Store Cafe in Norris Point. This cozy spot is known for its warm atmosphere and homemade products, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. I opted for a classic panini and a strong coffee, fueling up for the day ahead. I couldn't resist trying one of their famous “Gull Sh** Muffins”. The cafe itself had a fresh, quirky feel, with local art adorning the walls. It's the kind of place that makes you feel instantly at home, a perfect start to the day.
With a full stomach and a sense of anticipation, I headed to the Gros Morne Wildlife Museum. As someone with an interest in the natural world, I was eager to see the exhibits. The museum is home to over 100 full-size animals displayed in authentic scenes, bringing the Newfoundland and Labrador wilderness indoors. It was fascinating to get an up-close look at the diverse wildlife that inhabits this region.

It's not just about seeing the animals; it's about understanding their place in the intricate web of life that makes Gros Morne so special.
After immersing myself in the museum's exhibits, I decided to stretch my legs and embark on the Eastern Point Trail. This trail, located near Trout River, isn't prominently featured on park maps, making it a bit of a hidden gem. The hike itself was relatively short but offered stunning views of the rugged coastline. As I ascended, I was greeted by panoramic vistas of Trout River and the lighthouse area. The trail provided a variety of landscapes and some modest challenges. I took my time, soaking in the scenery and enjoying the crisp October air. The vibrant colors of the landscape were breathtaking, making the hike a truly memorable experience.

By lunchtime, I had worked up quite an appetite, so I made my way to Woody Point and the Merchant Warehouse Retro Cafe & Wine Bar. This spot is known for combining live entertainment with great food in a historic waterfront property. The cafe is set in a restored old warehouse, offering unobstructed views of Bonne Bay. I indulged in their famous fish and chips while enjoying the retro vibe and the beautiful patio view overlooking the water. The friendly service added to the experience, making it a must-visit spot in Woody Point.

In the late afternoon, I decided to do a little shopping at the Newfoundland Emporium. This charming craft and antique store in Corner Brook is a treasure trove of unique Newfoundland-made items. From handcrafted jewelry to local artwork and vintage collectibles, there was something to catch everyone’s eye. I picked up a few souvenirs for Fatima and Omar, wanting to bring a piece of Newfoundland back home to Bielefeld.

As evening approached, I made my way to the Sugar Hill Inn & Chanterelles Restaurant for dinner. This restaurant is known for its exceptional dining experiences and warm hospitality. The owner's daughter, Molly, and Chef Todd provide personal attention, making guests feel welcome. I savored every bite of the meal, reflecting on the day's adventures. The extensive wine selection perfectly complemented the meal, enhancing the overall experience.

Tomorrow marks the final day of my solo adventure in Gros Morne National Park. I plan to visit Shallow Bay Beach and Broom Point, soaking in the last moments of this incredible landscape. For dinner, I'm thinking of trying the Anchor Pub, and perhaps capping off the trip with a visit to the Western Newfoundland Brewing Co.. I'm looking forward to one last day of exploration and discovery before heading back to Bielefeld. It will be hard to say goodbye to this beautiful place, but I know I'll carry the memories with me for a lifetime.
Gros Morne has truly captured my heart, and I can't wait to share more stories and photos from this incredible journey. Until tomorrow!
