Chasing Views: From Positano's Shores to Agerola's Peaks
Today was all about perspective, literally and figuratively. After several days immersed in the heart of Amalfi, Aisha and I decided to venture out, seeking a broader view of this stunning coastline. We wanted to capture the essence of the Amalfi Coast from both its iconic shores and its less-trodden, elevated vantage points. And what a day it turned out to be!
Our day began with a hearty breakfast at Sensi Restaurant. The restaurant is located at the Hotel Residence and run by Enzo Calaudi and Chef Alessandro Tormolino. It was a delightful start, fueling us up for the adventures ahead. Sensi is known for it's use of Mediterranean fish and seafood, but also offering a few meat specialities. We savored the fresh pastries and strong Italian coffee, while discussing our plans for the day. The plan was simple: soak in the beauty of Positano, and then ascend to the heights of Agerola for panoramic views. We had heard whispers of viewpoints that would leave us breathless, and we were determined to find them.

The drive to Positano along the Costiera Amalfitana was, as always, an experience in itself. Each turn revealed a new postcard-worthy scene, the turquoise sea sparkling under the morning sun. The road, clinging precariously to the cliffs, offered glimpses of hidden coves and charming villages, each vying for our attention. I couldn't resist stopping at various points along the way, camera in hand, trying to capture the magic of the moment. It's a challenge to convey the sheer scale and beauty of this coastline through a lens, but I do my best, hoping to share at least a fraction of the experience with you all.
We finally arrived in Positano, the jewel of the Amalfi Coast, and it was as captivating as I had imagined. The town is famous for its colorful cliffside houses, boutique shopping, and stunning beaches. The cascade of pastel-colored buildings tumbling down to the sea is a sight that truly needs to be seen to be believed. We wandered through the narrow, winding streets, each turn revealing a new photo opportunity. The air was filled with the scent of lemons and the sounds of Italian chatter, creating an atmosphere that was both vibrant and relaxing.
We explored the local shops, filled with handcrafted ceramics, linen clothing, and, of course, all things lemon. Aisha found a beautiful hand-painted bowl that she couldn't resist, while I picked up a few bottles of limoncello to bring back home. It's these little souvenirs that help us relive our travel experiences long after we've returned to Toronto.
For lunch, we settled on Taverna degli Apostoli, a charming restaurant tucked away near the cathedral. "The food was amazing. The restaurant is tucked just under the cathedral, in the same building. The service was very professional, with the waitress speaking intelligently about the menu." I had heard about their slow-cooked octopus and lemon pesto, and I was eager to try it. The octopus, cooked in olive oil, garlic, and Mediterranean herbs, was incredibly tender and flavorful. Aisha opted for the homemade spaghetti with lemon pesto, a regional specialty that she thoroughly enjoyed. The flavors were so fresh and vibrant, perfectly complementing the stunning views from our table.

After lunch, we decided to seek out the Belvedere Di Paipo, which is located near Agerola. The drive up was steep and winding, but the views along the way were more than worth it. As we ascended, the landscape transformed from coastal to mountainous, with lush greenery and rugged cliffs dominating the scenery. I was constantly pulling over to snap photos, much to Aisha's amusement.

Finally, we reached the Belvedere Di Paipo, and I understood why it was so highly recommended. From this vantage point, the entire Amalfi Coast stretched out before us, a breathtaking panorama of mountains, sea, and sky. We could see Positano nestled below, its colorful buildings looking like tiny toy houses. In the distance, we could make out the islands of Capri and Procida, shimmering in the afternoon sun. The view was simply awe-inspiring.
Sometimes, the best way to appreciate beauty is to gain a new perspective.
We spent a long time at the viewpoint, simply soaking in the scenery and enjoying the tranquility. There were a few other travelers around, but the atmosphere was peaceful and serene. It was the perfect place to reflect on our trip so far and to appreciate the incredible beauty of this region.
Before heading back down, we made one last stop at Viewpoint Amalfi Coast Agerola. While not as well-known as the Belvedere Di Paipo, this viewpoint offered its own unique perspective. From here, we could see the town of Agerola nestled in the mountains, a charming and authentic Italian village that felt a world away from the bustling tourist centers along the coast.

For dinner, we decided to try Da Ciccio Cielo Mare Terra, a restaurant recommended for its traditional Amalfitan cuisine with a modern twist. The restaurant has been open since 1911. The location was stunning, with a terrace overlooking the sea. We started with an aperitif on the veranda, enjoying the breathtaking panorama. The food was delicious, with fresh seafood and locally sourced ingredients taking center stage. Aisha particularly enjoyed the cannelloni with chestnuts, while I savored the grilled calamari with pea puree and bottarga. The service was impeccable, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive.

After dinner, we stopped by Bar Francese for a nightcap. The bar is in a great location and easy to reach. It was the perfect way to end our day, sipping on a limoncello spritz and watching the world go by. The atmosphere was lively and festive, with locals and tourists mingling and enjoying the warm evening air.

As I sit here now, writing this blog post, I can't help but feel grateful for the experiences we've had today. From the charming streets of Positano to the breathtaking views of Agerola, we've witnessed the Amalfi Coast from every angle. It's a region that truly captures the imagination, a place where beauty and history collide in the most spectacular way.
Tomorrow is our last day on the Amalfi Coast. I am hoping to visit Parco del Dragone and Amalfi Coast Viewpoint. We will also be having breakfast at Terrazza 17, lunch at Ristorante Amalfi Cantina Miseria E Nobilta - Musica Dal Vivo, and dinner at Saracen Tower. Before we leave, I want to buy a souvenir at Cose Belle.
I am looking forward to sharing our final day of adventure with you all. Stay tuned!
