As our Malian adventure draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've had in Mopti. This trip, taken with my wife Fatoumata and our children Aminata and Ibrahim, has been nothing short of transformative. From the bustling markets to the tranquil Niger River, Mopti has gifted us with memories we will treasure forever. It's hard to believe our eight days here are already over, but as we prepare to leave, I want to share the highlights of our final day in this captivating city.

Our last day began with a delightful breakfast at Zeina café. The aroma of freshly baked bread and the rich, strong Malian coffee filled the air, invigorating us for the day ahead. Aminata and Ibrahim were particularly fond of the pastries, and Fatoumata and I enjoyed the traditional Malian breakfast options. It was a perfect start, setting a positive tone for our final explorations. Zeina Café is more than just a place to eat; it's a local hub where you can truly taste the flavors of Mali.

After breakfast, we decided to visit Lougal, a serene garden in Korientzé. The garden was a peaceful escape, filled with lush greenery and vibrant flowers. We strolled along the tranquil pathways, enjoying the soothing sounds of nature. It was a perfect spot for relaxation and contemplation, a welcome contrast to the bustling city. The kids loved spotting the different birds and butterflies flitting about. Lougal provided a serene backdrop for us to reflect on our journey and appreciate the beauty of Mali. I remember back home in Montreal, how much I miss having access to places like this, where nature's beauty is so readily accessible.

Next on our itinerary was a visit to the Tower Of Africa. While the Tower of Africa is actually located in Bamako , we were still keen to explore a landmark that symbolizes Mali's rich heritage. We learned about the tower's significance as a heritage museum showcasing Mali's history and culture. Although we couldn't visit the actual tower, understanding its importance gave us a deeper appreciation for Mali's cultural identity. The Tower of Africa, with its modern architectural design, offers panoramic views of Bamako and reflects the city's aspirations for growth and connectivity within Mali and across the African continent.

For lunch, we ventured to Restaurant Bar Bozo, a culinary gem in the heart of Mopti. Situated on the peninsula, facing the port, the location was perfect. We walked through the fish and spice market to get there, an experience in itself. The restaurant offered a stunning view of the port, with boats passing by and the activity of the boatmen providing a captivating scene. The vibrant décor and lively atmosphere made it a memorable meal. We savored the local cuisine, from spicy stews to grilled meats and fresh vegetables, all prepared with local ingredients. Aminata and Ibrahim were fascinated by the boats and the bustling port activity.

In the evening, we had dinner at Restaurant Damou. This restaurant is known for its authentic Malian cuisine and warm hospitality. As we savored our meal, we reminisced about our favorite moments from the trip, from the bustling markets to the serene river cruises.

To cap off our final night, Fatoumata and I decided to experience Mopti's nightlife at Refuge Night Club. It was a fantastic way to celebrate our last evening in Mopti, surrounded by the energy and rhythm of Malian culture. I even tried my hand at some traditional Malian dance moves, much to Fatoumata's amusement.
