Today was a day of simple pleasures and breathtaking scenery, as we ventured to Caburé, a charming peninsula in Lençóis Maranhenses National Park. It’s amazing how a place so remote can offer such a rich tapestry of experiences, from tranquil beaches to sustainable energy. It was a day to remember, filled with laughter, exploration, and a deeper connection with nature.

Our day began, as it has for the past week, with breakfast at the Restaurante no Povoado de Ponta Verde. The familiar faces of the staff and the comforting aroma of Brazilian coffee made me feel right at home. Aisha was particularly excited, knowing that today's adventure involved the beach and, hopefully, some wildlife sightings. Hans, ever the pragmatist, made sure we were well-stocked with sunscreen and water – essentials in this stunning but sun-drenched landscape.

After breakfast, we set off towards Caburé. The journey itself was an experience, navigating the sandy paths with our trusty guide, eager to show us the hidden gems of the region. As we bumped along, Aisha peppered him with questions about the local flora and fauna, her curiosity insatiable. I loved seeing her so engaged with the natural world, a stark contrast to the digital distractions of our life back in Heidelberg.

Our first stop was the Parque Eólico Caburé. I must admit, I was a bit skeptical at first. A wind farm? After the wind farm, we continued to Caburé, a small fishing village nestled between the Preguiças River and the Atlantic Ocean. The unique geography of this peninsula means you can literally swim in both fresh and saltwater within minutes. The village itself is rustic and charming, with a few pousadas and restaurants catering to tourists. We strolled along the beach, the soft sand between our toes, the sound of the waves a constant lullaby. Aisha collected seashells, each one a treasure to be added to her growing collection. Hans and I simply enjoyed the peace and quiet, a rare moment of solitude amidst our busy lives.

For lunch, we, again, enjoyed a meal at Restaurante no Povoado de Ponta Verde. The fresh seafood was a delight, and we savored every bite, knowing it was caught just hours before. Aisha, surprisingly, devoured a plate of grilled fish, a testament to the persuasive powers of fresh air and sunshine. As we ate, we watched the local fishermen bringing in their daily catch, a scene that felt both timeless and authentic.

After lunch, we explored more of Caburé. We walked along the narrow strip of land, with the river on one side and the ocean on the other. The contrast was striking – the calm, dark waters of the river versus the wild, crashing waves of the sea. We even spotted a few windsurfers catching the afternoon breeze, their colorful sails adding a splash of vibrancy to the landscape.

One of the highlights of our visit to Caburé was a visit to Frutos de Goiás Santo Amaro MA. This shop offered a delightful array of ice creams and popsicles made from local fruits. Aisha's eyes lit up as she surveyed the colorful selection, finally settling on a mango popsicle. Hans and I opted for a more adventurous flavor – acerola, a tart and refreshing treat that perfectly captured the essence of Brazil.

As the sun began to set, we found a spot on the beach to watch the spectacle. The sky exploded with color, painting the dunes in hues of orange, pink, and purple. It was a perfect moment, a reminder of why we embarked on this adventure in the first place – to connect with each other and with the natural world.

It's a place where you can disconnect from the stresses of modern life and reconnect with what truly matters – family, nature, and the simple joys of being present in the moment.

As we head into our final day here in Lençóis Maranhenses, I am filled with a mix of emotions. Sadness that our adventure is coming to an end, but also gratitude for the incredible experiences we've shared. Tomorrow, we plan to visit Vassouras and Mirante dos pequenos lençóis maranhenses. I am excited to see what wonders await us as we continue to explore this magical park. We also hope to visit Boogie dos Lençóis.

Back at our simple accommodation, I am already dreaming of our next journey, wherever it may lead. But for now, I am content to savor the memories of today, the feel of the sand between my toes, the taste of acerola on my tongue, and the sound of Aisha's laughter echoing in my heart.
