A Day of Breathtaking Discoveries
Today was a day of exploration and wonder here in Fernando de Noronha. We ventured off the beaten path, discovering hidden viewpoints and immersing ourselves in the island's natural beauty. It was a day that reminded me why we chose this destination for our family eco-adventure, and it was filled with moments that I will cherish forever. Our day began with a delightful breakfast at Tempero da Mãezinha. The cozy atmosphere and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee set the perfect tone for our adventures. Lena and Sofia particularly enjoyed the local pastries, a sweet start to a day filled with exploration. I savored the strong coffee, knowing we had a moderately challenging hike ahead of us. After breakfast, we packed our essentials – sunscreen (though I still regret forgetting the insect repellent!), reusable water bottles, and our trusty hiking boots – and set off towards our first destination: Mirante Ponta da Sapata - Portão.
Hike to Mirante Ponta da Sapata for breathtaking panoramic views of Fernando de Noronha's dramatic coastline and abundant wildlife.
The drive to Mirante Ponta da Sapata was an adventure in itself. The roads of Fernando de Noronha are a mix of paved and unpaved paths, each turn revealing a new vista of stunning landscapes. As we approached the viewpoint, the anticipation grew. We parked the car and walked the final stretch, the sound of the ocean growing louder with each step. And then, we arrived.
The view from Mirante Ponta da Sapata was nothing short of spectacular. The vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean stretched out before us, the waves crashing against the rugged coastline. The girls were mesmerized by the sight, their eyes wide with wonder. I took a moment to soak it all in, the fresh sea breeze on my face, the sound of the waves in my ears, and the panoramic view filling my senses. It was a moment of pure bliss, a reminder of the incredible beauty that exists in our world.
Sometimes, the most rewarding experiences are found when you venture off the beaten path.
After spending some time at Mirante Ponta da Sapata, we decided to embark on the Trilha dos Abreus. This trail is known for its relatively short distance but is considered moderate in difficulty due to a steep descent over rocks. Knowing this, we made sure Sofia was extra careful, holding her hand as we navigated the trickier sections. The trail wound through lush vegetation, offering glimpses of the ocean along the way. The air was filled with the sounds of nature – birds chirping, leaves rustling, and the distant roar of the ocean.

The highlight of the Trilha dos Abreus was undoubtedly the natural pool at the end. After carefully descending the rocky path, we were rewarded with a crystal-clear pool teeming with marine life. Sofia was thrilled! We spent a good hour snorkeling and exploring the underwater world, marveling at the colorful fish and coral formations. It was an incredible experience, one that reinforced our commitment to protecting these fragile ecosystems. We made sure to follow all the guidelines for responsible snorkeling, including not wearing sunscreen and avoiding touching the coral or marine life.
By the time we finished the Trilha dos Abreus, we were all quite hungry. We drove to Restaurante do Vale for a well-deserved lunch. This restaurant is located within the Pousada do Vale and is known for its seafood, risottos, and salads, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients. We enjoyed a delicious meal of fresh fish and locally grown vegetables, savoring the flavors of Fernando de Noronha. The atmosphere was relaxed and family-friendly, making it the perfect place to unwind after our adventurous morning.

After lunch, we decided to do a little shopping at Loja Rip Curl Fernando de Noronha. Sofia needed a new rash guard, and Lena and I were hoping to find some eco-friendly swimwear. The store had a great selection of surf apparel and accessories, and we all found something we liked. I ended up buying a new hat to protect myself from the sun, while Lena found a beautiful swimsuit made from recycled materials. Sofia was thrilled with her new rash guard, eager to test it out in the ocean tomorrow.

As the day drew to a close, we made our way to Restaurante Fernão El Loco Tapas e Drinks for dinner. This restaurant is known for its tapas and drinks, with a menu that blends regional flavors with international influences. We ordered a variety of tapas, each one more delicious than the last. The atmosphere was lively and fun, with music playing in the background. It was the perfect way to end our day of exploration, savoring good food and good company.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, we are excited to visit Palácio São Miguel and Fort St. John the Baptist of the Two Brothers. We're also planning to have breakfast at Recanto da Graça, lunch at Restaurante Valdenio, and dinner at Maré Comida com Vida - Noronha. And perhaps, if we have time, we'll check out Santo Deck for a relaxing evening drink.
Today was a reminder that the best travel experiences are often the ones that are unplanned, the ones where you simply follow your curiosity and see where it leads you. Fernando de Noronha has a way of surprising you, of revealing its hidden beauty in unexpected moments. And I am grateful for every moment of it.
As I reflect on the day, I am filled with a sense of gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to explore this incredible island, gratitude for the time spent with my family, and gratitude for the memories we are creating together. I am also reminded of the importance of responsible travel, of leaving no trace and respecting the natural environment. It is our responsibility to protect these precious places so that future generations can enjoy them as well.
Tomorrow, we continue our adventure, eager to discover more of what Fernando de Noronha has to offer. But for now, I will rest and dream of the beautiful sights and sounds of this magical island. Goodnight from Fernando de Noronha!
