Discover the authentic flavors of Mount Taygetos with Oliver and Greta as they explore local taverns and scenic viewpoints.
Culinary Adventures and Scenic Views in Mount Taygetos
Today was all about savoring the local flavors and soaking in the stunning vistas around Mount Taygetos. Greta and I set out with a plan to indulge in some authentic Greek cuisine while exploring the hidden gems of this beautiful region. It's amazing how food can be such an integral part of experiencing a new place, and today definitely didn't disappoint.
Our day began with breakfast at Pikoulianika Restaurant in Pikoulianika. The restaurant was a jewel in Mystras, offering traditional Greek food made with fresh, local ingredients. We enjoyed a delightful omelette and some gorgeous fries. It was the perfect start to a day of exploration. I was particularly impressed by the hospitality; it felt like we were dining with family.

After breakfast, we decided to do a little shopping at Ishwara boutique. While it wasn't exactly what I expected, Greta found a lovely scarf. It's always nice to pick up a little something to remember a place by, and I'm sure Greta will treasure it. I must admit, I was hoping for a local craft shop, but sometimes the unexpected finds are the most memorable.

Next on our list was the Panorama Tavern for lunch. Located in Exochori, this restaurant offered a breathtaking view that perfectly complemented the delicious food. We had some good pork. The staff was cool and the service professional, making our lunch experience even more enjoyable. The quiet atmosphere added to the charm, and the prices were quite reasonable.

Sometimes, the most memorable experiences are found in the simplest of moments, shared over a delicious meal with a breathtaking view.
With our bellies full and spirits high, we drove to a viewpoint to capture the beauty of Mount Taygetos. The view was simply stunning – a panoramic vista of the landscape stretching out before us. It was a perfect moment to pause and appreciate the natural beauty of Greece. The air was crisp and clean, and the silence was broken only by the occasional sound of birds. I took a few photos, trying to capture the essence of the moment, but no picture could truly do it justice.

Before dinner, we made a stop at Akrogiali Fish Tavern. However, there seems to be a bit of confusion as there are multiple taverns with the same name in different locations. We ended up at the one in Kotronas. The view from the tavern was great, overlooking the incoming waves. We enjoyed some nicely cooked sardine, calamari, and salads. The staff was pleasant, and the service was spectacular. It was a delightful experience, although I couldn't help but wonder if the other Akrogiali might have offered a different experience altogether.

Finally, for dinner, we chose The castle restaurant. This restaurant, near Mystras, offered a unique dining experience with a historical backdrop. Although the name suggested a castle, it turned out to be a hotel with a restaurant. Nevertheless, the food was excellent, and the ambiance was charming. We enjoyed a relaxing evening, savoring the flavors of Greece one last time before our departure.

As we head into our final day tomorrow, I can’t help but feel a tinge of sadness that our adventure is coming to an end. But, tomorrow we plan to have breakfast at Palataki Taverna, lunch at En Chatipi, and dinner at Amarantos (Soumaki taverna) ΤΑΒΕΡΝΑ ΑΝΑΒΡΥΤΗ. We also plan to visit Rodanthos Rock n Roll Beer Bar. I’m looking forward to soaking in every last moment of this beautiful country. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m already dreaming of our next adventure together, Greta.
