A Day of Discovery in Perugia
Today was another incredible day of exploration here in Perugia. I woke up with a sense of excitement, eager to uncover more of this city's hidden gems. It's amazing how much history and culture can be packed into one place! I was especially looking forward to visiting a tower with panoramic views and relaxing in the shade of a beautiful garden.
My day began with a delightful breakfast at La Casina Di Pulcinella. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the promise of Italian pastries was the perfect start to fuel my adventures. After a satisfying meal, I set off to explore the city, camera in hand, ready to capture the essence of Perugia.
First on my list was the Sciri Tower. As I approached, I was immediately struck by its imposing presence. Standing tall against the skyline, it was a testament to Perugia's rich medieval history. The Sciri Tower, also known as Torre degli Scalzi, dates back to the 13th century. It is the only complete tower remaining in Perugia, offering an unparalleled panoramic view of the city. I learned that the tower was once part of a cluster of houses belonging to the noble Oddi clan before passing to the Sciri family in the 16th century. The tower stands 46 meters high and is constructed of limestone blocks.

I climbed the steep stairway to the top, a bit winded but determined. The climb was worth every step! From the summit, the view was simply breathtaking. I could see the entire city spread out before me, with its terracotta rooftops, winding streets, and lush green hills in the distance. The tower was considered a strategic viewpoint enabling control of the city. It was amazing to imagine what life must have been like centuries ago, with the city's noble families using the tower for both military and symbolic purposes.
Sometimes, the best views come after the hardest climbs.
After descending from the Sciri Tower, I made my way to the Frontone Gardens. This historic green space, located near St. Peter's Basilica, offered a tranquil escape from the bustling city streets. As I entered the gardens, I was immediately enveloped in a sense of calm. The park consists of four parallel avenues adorned with ancient trees, converging into an amphitheater. The gardens have a fascinating history, having served as a parade ground, a space for tournaments, and even a venue for poetry readings.

I strolled along the shaded pathways, admiring the meticulously manicured lawns and vibrant flower beds. The gardens are known for their holm oaks. I paused for a moment to sit by the travertine arch, designed by Baldassarre Orsini, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. It was the perfect spot to relax, reflect, and appreciate the beauty of nature. During the summer, the Frontone Gardens host concerts, events, and film festivals, adding to its vibrant cultural scene. There are several events taking place in Perugia this month, including the Umbria Jazz Festival.
Leaving the Frontone Gardens, I decided to indulge in a little retail therapy at Buonumori Boutique. This charming shop on Corso Pietro Vannucci offered a delightful array of clothing and accessories. I had a lovely time browsing the unique items and treating myself to a small souvenir. Buonumori Boutique carries brands such as Bulgari, Comme Des Garcons, and Michael Kors.

For lunch, I ventured to Osteria Pappabona. This restaurant specializes in Italian cuisine, and I was eager to sample some local specialties. I ordered the tagliatelle, which was absolutely divine. The service was excellent, and the friendly staff made me feel right at home. The restaurant is known for its delicious dishes and great service. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot for a midday meal. The restaurant is located on the main street of Perugia.

In the afternoon, I visited the Palazzo Sorbello Casa Museo. This historic house museum offered a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the aristocratic Bourbon di Sorbello family. The palazzo dates back to the 17th century and features rooms with frescoed vaults, elegant furnishings, and 18th-century chandeliers. The palace is located in the historic center of Perugia.

I wandered through the opulent rooms, admiring the art collections and historical artifacts. The Casa Museo displays paintings, porcelains, printed works, manuscripts, and embroidered fabrics. The museum provides an important testimony of the intellectual life and artistic taste of the aristocracy of the 18th and 19th centuries in Umbria. From the panoramic terrace, I enjoyed a wonderful view of Perugia and the valley of Assisi. It was a truly enriching experience that transported me back in time.
As the day drew to a close, I treated myself to dinner at Dal Mi' Cocco. This restaurant offers a set menu of traditional Perugian cuisine at an affordable price. The menu features homemade pasta, gnocchi, and traditional meat dishes. I savored every bite, enjoying the authentic flavors of Umbria. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff was friendly and welcoming.
