A Day of Waterfalls and Wonders

Today was a day of pure adventure, mon! We chased waterfalls, swam in hidden pools, and soaked up the natural beauty of Chapada Diamantina National Park. It was a day where the spirit of Jamaica met the soul of Brazil, and let me tell you, the vibes were irie!

We started our day bright and early, grabbing a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Sabor da Serra. I fueled up with some local delicacies – gotta have that energy for a day of hiking and swimming! The plan was to visit the majestic Waterfall Buracão and the serene Poço Halley. I was excited, and the crew was buzzing with anticipation.

The drive to Ibicoara, where the entrance to the Espalhado Municipal Natural Park and the trail to Buracão Waterfall is located, was an experience in itself. The landscape transformed as we drove, from rolling hills to dramatic canyons. August in Chapada Diamantina brings warm days and cool nights. The temperature was just right, with a pleasant breeze rustling through the trees. It reminded me of the hills back home in Linstead, though with a distinctly Brazilian flair.

The hike to Buracão was moderately challenging, with some steep sections and river crossings. But the views, oh, the views! They were worth every drop of sweat. We passed by the Recanto Verde Waterfall and Cachoeira das Orquídeas, each offering its own unique charm. The anticipation built with every step, the sound of the cascading water growing louder, promising a refreshing reward.

The earth has music for those who listen.

And then, we arrived. Buracão Waterfall is a sight to behold, mon! An 85-meter cascade of water thundering into a dark pool below. The sheer power and beauty of it took my breath away. Swimming in that pool was an experience I won't soon forget. The water was cool and invigorating, washing away all the stress and worries of everyday life. I felt like I was in a scene from a movie, a true hidden paradise. The falls themselves have eroded part of the rock to form a narrow path. It felt like an aquatic sanctuary, a place to be purified by the waters.

After spending a good few hours at Buracão, swimming and taking in the scenery, we hiked back, our hearts full of joy and gratitude. We had a late lunch near the park, a typical regional meal prepared by the locals. It was simple, hearty, and delicious – the perfect way to end our Buracão adventure. The flavors of Bahia are something special, and as a chef, I always appreciate experiencing new culinary traditions.

Next up was Poço Halley, a completely different experience but equally rewarding. Located in the Muritiba Municipal Park, Poço Halley is a serene natural pool fed by a gentle waterfall. The hike to get there was easy, a leisurely stroll through lush vegetation. The water in Poço Halley was crystal clear, perfect for a relaxing swim. The atmosphere was tranquil, a world away from the thundering power of Buracão. I took a dip, floating on my back and gazing up at the sky, feeling completely at peace. Klara would have loved this place, it has serenity written all over it.

Before heading back to camp for dinner at Restaurante Sabor da Serra, we made a stop at Empório Chapada Diamantina. This place is a treasure trove of local products, from organic foods to handcrafted souvenirs. I picked up some local coffee, some artisanal snacks, and a few gifts for the family back in Berlin. The staff were friendly and helpful, sharing their knowledge of the region's culinary treasures. I even shared a few tips on how to spice up Jamaican cuisine, a little cultural exchange, you know?

The Empório Chapada Diamantina is more than just a shop; it's a celebration of the region's culture and flavors. They have organic foods, local fruits, nuts and snacks. It is located in the Centro of Lencois. They also sell handcrafted souvenirs that reflect the local culture. I even found some spices that reminded me of home, a little taste of Jamaica in the heart of Brazil.

Back at camp, we enjoyed another delicious meal at Restaurante Sabor da Serra, sharing stories and laughter around the campfire. The stars were out in full force, a breathtaking display of cosmic beauty. I felt a deep connection to nature, a sense of belonging to something greater than myself. As I drifted off to sleep, I couldn't help but feel grateful for this incredible journey.

Tomorrow, we're off to explore Pratinha and Morro dos Cristais. I've heard tales of Pratinha's clear waters and Morro dos Cristais' stunning views. I can't wait to see what adventures await us. I might even pick up a bottle of rum from Quilombola to celebrate another day in paradise!

Chapada Diamantina, you continue to amaze me, mon. Until tomorrow, keep exploring and keep the vibes irie!

Mi soon come (I'll be back soon!),
Robert.
