Today was a day of pure Holbox magic, filled with serene island escapes and delightful culinary experiences. It’s amazing how quickly this little island has captured my heart. I’m so glad I get to share these experiences with Maximilian and Elena. Every day here is a new adventure, and today was no exception.

Our morning began with a hearty breakfast at Restaurante Wayak Dreamy Food Holbox. The aroma of freshly brewed Mexican coffee filled the air as we settled into our cozy spot. I ordered huevos rancheros, a classic that always reminds me of my abuela’s cooking back in Cholula. Maximilian opted for the tropical fruit platter, and Elena, of course, chose pancakes with Nutella. Nothing beats starting the day with a delicious meal and the promise of new discoveries.

Fueled and ready, we set off for our first destination: UMA Cayo Cocodrilo. The boat ride was a bit bumpy, but the views were absolutely worth it. The turquoise waters shimmered under the bright sun, and the salty breeze invigorated our senses. As we approached the cayo, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. I had heard stories about the crocodiles that call this place home, and I was eager to see them in their natural habitat.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by our guide, who shared fascinating insights about the local ecosystem and the crocodiles themselves. We spotted several crocodiles lounging in the sun, their eyes peeking out from the mangroves. The island truly lived up to its name – it was a haven of tranquility and natural beauty.

As the afternoon wore on, we decided to take a break and relax at our hotel, Naay Boutique Hotel Holbox. The hotel’s serene atmosphere and modern amenities provided the perfect respite from the day’s adventures. It was a much-needed moment of relaxation before our evening activities.

For dinner, we ventured to Chinicuil Tacos + Mezcal Holbox Restaurant, a hidden gem known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and extensive mezcal selection. The restaurant’s cozy ambiance and friendly staff made us feel right at home. We started with a selection of tacos, including the chapulines (grasshoppers), a local delicacy that I was hesitant to try but ended up loving. Maximilian, always the adventurous one, sampled a variety of mezcals, each with its unique flavor profile. Elena stuck to her usual – a cheese quesadilla – but she did try a sip of my agua de Jamaica (hibiscus tea) and declared it “muy rica.”

After dinner, we decided to experience Holbox’s nightlife at The Hot Corner, a popular bar known for its live music and lively atmosphere. The bar was packed with people dancing to the rhythm of a local band playing salsa and reggae tunes. Elena was fascinated by the music and the dancers, and she even tried a few salsa steps herself. Maximilian and I enjoyed the vibrant energy of the crowd, sipping on tropical cocktails and soaking in the island’s infectious spirit. The Hot Corner was the perfect way to end our day, a celebration of Holbox’s vibrant culture and community.

As we walked back to our hotel under the starlit sky, I couldn't help but reflect on the incredible day we had experienced. From exploring secluded islands to savoring delicious cuisine and dancing the night away, Holbox had once again exceeded my expectations. I am so grateful for these moments with my family, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Tomorrow, we plan to explore Rio Kuka and Casa Laguna Lagartos, and I am excited to see what new adventures await us. I’ve heard Rio Kuka is a beautiful spot for birdwatching, and Casa Laguna Lagartos offers a unique glimpse into the island’s natural beauty. We’ll start our day with breakfast at Quartieri Holbox, followed by lunch at Cenaduria La Tapatia - Holbox, and end the day with dinner at LUUMA. I’m also hoping to find some time to do a little shopping at WÁAY.
