Exploring the Blue Pearl: A Journey to Chefchaouen with Friends
Day 13: Farewell to the Blue Pearl: Reflecting on My Chefchaouen Adventure
Saying goodbye to Chefchaouen with a heart full of memories, blue-washed streets, and newfound friendships. A perfect end to a Moroccan dream.
Adieu, Chefchaouen!
As the sun began its descent, casting a warm glow over the blue city, I found myself reflecting on the incredible journey I've had here in Chefchaouen. Today marked the end of my 13-day adventure, a trip filled with vibrant colors, rich culture, and unforgettable memories. It's hard to believe how quickly time has flown by, but every moment has been etched into my mind, a testament to the magic of this Moroccan gem.
The day began, as many others had, with a delightful breakfast at Mounir Food [i]. Greta always told me that the first meal of the day is the most important, and Mounir Food certainly set the tone for a positive farewell. I savored a traditional Moroccan omelette, fluffy and flavorful, accompanied by a steaming glass of mint tea. The combination of the savory egg and sweet mint was the perfect start to a day of final explorations. I took my time, enjoying the simple pleasure of the meal and soaking in the atmosphere of the bustling cafe.

With a full stomach and a sense of anticipation, I set out with my friends to revisit some of my favorite spots in the city. Our first stop was Dar Antonio Chefchaouen, a place that had captured my heart with its traditional Moroccan charm. I wanted to take one last look at its beautiful architecture and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. I remembered the countless positive reviews I had read about Dar Antonio before booking my stay, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The friendly staff and the cozy ambiance made it feel like a home away from home.

The beauty of travel lies not just in seeing new places, but in the memories we create and the people we meet along the way.
Next, we strolled along Boulevard Mohamed V, a vibrant street lined with shops and cafes. The street was bustling with activity, locals going about their daily lives and tourists eager to find souvenirs to take home. I enjoyed the lively atmosphere, the sounds of chatter and laughter filling the air. The August weather was warm, with the sun shining brightly, making it a perfect day for a leisurely walk. According to the forecast, the average temperature in Chefchaouen in August ranges from a high of 95°F (35°C) to a low of 69°F (20°C), so it was definitely hot but manageable.

As we walked, we stopped at Jabir shop chefchaouen, a delightful gift shop known for its unique, locally crafted items. I was on the hunt for a special memento to remind me of my time in Chefchaouen. The shop was filled with colorful pottery, intricate textiles, and vibrant local art. I chatted with the owner, who shared stories about the artisans and the history behind the crafts. I finally settled on a beautiful hand-painted ceramic bowl, its blue hues mirroring the city itself. It was the perfect souvenir, a tangible reminder of the beauty and artistry of Chefchaouen.

For lunch, we decided to try Restaurant Ali Baba, known for its authentic Moroccan cuisine and separate vegan menu. As someone who appreciates both traditional dishes and plant-based options, this was the perfect choice. We ordered a variety of dishes, including tagines, couscous, and freshly baked bread. The flavors were rich and complex, a testament to the skillful use of local spices. The restaurant's warm and inviting ambiance made it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a delicious meal.

In the afternoon, we returned to Dar Antonio. I was really taken by the architecture and the location, which is close to the heart of Chefchaouen. I sat on the terrace, sipping mint tea and reflecting on everything I had seen and done during my stay. I thought about how much I had learned about Moroccan culture, about the kindness and hospitality of the people, and about the simple joys of life. As an English teacher, I'm always fascinated by linguistics and cultural exchange, and this trip had provided me with ample opportunities to indulge my interests.
As the day drew to a close, we gathered for a final dinner at Restaurant Terrasse Djebli. The restaurant is renowned for its spectacular views and traditional Moroccan dishes, and it did not disappoint. We sat on the terrace, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink, as we enjoyed a delicious meal of tagine and grilled meats. The atmosphere was lively and warm, filled with laughter and conversation. It was the perfect way to say goodbye to Chefchaouen, surrounded by friends and enjoying the beauty of the city one last time.

One of the things I appreciate about travelling with friends is the opportunity to share experiences and create lasting memories together. Greta and Lila were missed on this trip, but I know they were with me in spirit. I often found myself thinking about how much Lila would have loved the vibrant colors of Chefchaouen, and how much Greta would have appreciated the rich history and culture.
As I prepare to leave Chefchaouen, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and contentment. This trip has been an incredible experience, one that I will cherish for years to come. The blue-washed streets, the friendly people, and the delicious food have all left an indelible mark on my heart. I am already planning my next adventure, eager to explore new cultures and create new memories. But Chefchaouen will always hold a special place in my heart, a reminder of the beauty and magic that can be found in the world.
Tomorrow, I begin my journey back to Berlin, back to my life as an English teacher, back to my loving wife and daughter. But I know that a part of me will always remain in Chefchaouen, wandering through the blue streets and soaking in the beauty of the Blue Pearl.
Thank you, Chefchaouen, for the memories. Until we meet again.
P.S. For those planning a trip to Chefchaouen, I highly recommend visiting Jabir Shop for unique souvenirs. The owner is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, and the shop offers a wide array of locally crafted items. Also, be sure to try the tagine at Restaurant Terrasse Djebli.
