A Day of Quiet Wonder

Today was a day of gentle exploration and quiet reflection here in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. After days filled with exhilarating excursions and vibrant wildlife sightings, Liam and I embraced a slower pace, savoring the tranquility of our surroundings and the unique experiences that came our way. It’s amazing how the jungle reveals different facets of its personality depending on how you choose to engage with it.

Our day began with a hearty breakfast at the Cuyabeno Lodge, a spread of fresh, local fruits, eggs, and strong Ecuadorian coffee that fueled us for the day ahead. The lodge itself was buzzing with the quiet energy of fellow travelers preparing for their own adventures, but we decided to linger a bit longer, soaking in the views of the lagoon from the dining area. The air was thick with humidity, but a gentle breeze kept things comfortable as we watched the early morning light dance across the water.

After breakfast, we set out to explore some of the other lodges in the area. We decided to have lunch at Jamu Lodge, a charming ecolodge located a short distance from Laguna Grande. Jamu Lodge prides itself on using fresh, local ingredients in its meals, and our lunch was a delicious blend of Ecuadorian and international cuisine. We savored every bite, enjoying the flavors of the rainforest in a comfortable and inviting setting.

After our delightful lunch, we decided to do some shopping at the Aguas Negras River Lodge, a unique spot known for its tranquility and connection to the local Kichwa community. The lodge is nestled near the meeting of the Cuyabeno River and the Aguarico River, offering a secluded and peaceful atmosphere. While there, I found a beautiful, hand-crafted bracelet made from seeds and natural fibers, a perfect memento of our time in the Amazon. Supporting the local artisans felt good, knowing that our purchase was directly contributing to their livelihoods.

As the day drew to a close, we returned to our lodge, feeling a sense of contentment and gratitude for the experiences we had shared. Tomorrow marks the end of our Amazonian adventure. We'll be having breakfast at Jamu Lodge before heading back to civilization. We plan to enjoy a final paddling canoe journey to experience the silence of the Lagoon and at the same time the exotic sounds of birds and insects. It’s hard to believe that our time here is coming to an end. This journey has been nothing short of transformative, and I know that the memories we’ve made will stay with us for a lifetime. From the vibrant wildlife to the warm hospitality of the local people, the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve has captured our hearts in a way we never expected. I am so grateful that Liam and I decided to embark on this sustainable adventure together. It has brought us closer to nature, closer to each other, and closer to a deeper understanding of the world around us.
