Day 8: Farewell Tromsø: A Day of Museums and Memories
Explore Tromsø's Arctic history and scenic beauty on our last day, filled with cultural insights and cozy moments. A perfect family farewell!
A Fond Farewell to Tromsø
As our family adventure in Tromsø draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible experiences we've shared. Today was all about soaking in the last bits of Tromsø's unique charm, delving into its history, and enjoying the simple pleasures of this arctic city. It's bittersweet, knowing our Northern Lights chase is over, but I'm filled with gratitude for the memories we've created.
The day began with a hearty breakfast at Sumo Restaurant Vervet. Sophie, David, and I enjoyed a selection of Asian-inspired dishes. I opted for the Ebi Ringo, while David enjoyed Pad Thai Noodles. Sophie, ever the fan of finger foods, enjoyed the Chicken Karaage. The restaurant's modern ambiance and views of the fjord made for a delightful start to our final day in Tromsø.

After breakfast, we made our way to The Arctic University Museum of Norway. The museum is located a few kilometers from the city center, and we decided to take a bus. The exhibitions offered a fascinating insight into the natural and cultural history of the Arctic region. Sophie was particularly captivated by the 'Under the Lights' exhibit, where she could interact with displays about the Northern Lights. I was fascinated by the exhibit on Sami culture, learning about their traditions and history. David, with his love for history, was engrossed in the archaeological displays, especially the Viking exhibit. The museum also had special events going on related to Advent.

It's not about the destination, but the journey and the memories made along the way.
After spending a few hours at the museum, we decided to take a walk through Folkeparken. This idyllic park on the southern end of Tromsø island used to be where the Troms Folkemuseum was. Although it's December, the park was still beautiful, covered in snow. We strolled past the historic buildings, now under the care of the Perspektivet Museum. Sophie enjoyed running around in the snow, while David and I admired the peaceful scenery. Although the summer activities were not available, the park's natural beauty was still evident.

For lunch, we headed to Tapas Tromsø AS. We shared a variety of tapas dishes, each bursting with unique Northern Norwegian flavors. The chefs have free rein to experiment with flavors, and the unique ingredients make the tapas stand out.

In the late afternoon, we decided to indulge in some local relaxation at Agenturet Øl og Vinbar. This cozy bar, located in an old building from 1837, offered a warm and inviting atmosphere. I savored a glass of wine, while David sampled a local beer. Sophie enjoyed a warm cup of hot chocolate. The bar had a wide selection of beverages, with over 120 different beers and 250 wines from all over the world. It was the perfect spot to unwind and reflect on our Tromsø adventure.

As evening approached, we made our way to Skarven Kro for our final dinner in Tromsø. This traditional restaurant offered a cozy and lively atmosphere. We feasted on Norwegian cuisine, with me trying the braised fish, while David enjoyed the prawns. Sophie enjoyed ice cream and waffles. The friendly staff and the fireplace added to the cozy ambiance.

After dinner, we took a final stroll through the city center, admiring the Christmas lights and decorations. Tromsø in December is truly magical, with the festive atmosphere adding to its charm. Despite the cold, the city felt warm and welcoming.
As we prepare to leave Tromsø tomorrow, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we've had. From chasing the Northern Lights to exploring the city's cultural attractions, Tromsø has captured our hearts. This family adventure has brought us closer together and created memories that we will cherish forever. We will miss the snow, the Northern Lights, and the friendly people of Tromsø.
Tomorrow, we will be heading back to Toronto, filled with stories and photographs to share. While I am excited to return home, a part of me will always remain in this magical Arctic city. Thank you, Tromsø, for the adventure of a lifetime.
Until next time, happy travels!
