Discover more about Babur Garden

Bagh-e Babur, also known as the Gardens of Babur, is a significant historical site located on the slopes of Kuh-e Sher Darwaza, in Kabul, Afghanistan [8, 23]. This garden was established around the 1520s by Zahir-ud-din Muhammad Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire [2, 10]. Babur, who greatly admired Kabul's climate, requested to be buried here [15]. After his death in Agra, India, his remains were moved to this garden [2, 15]. The garden is arranged into 15 terraces across 11.5 hectares, following an east-west axis [8]. Visitors can enjoy views of the garden, its perimeter, the Kabul River, and the snow-covered mountains from the top terrace [8]. Over the centuries, the garden has been re-developed by various Afghan rulers [3]. Amir Abdur Rahman Khan, who ruled a united Afghanistan, redesigned Bagh-e Babur after 1880, adding landscaping, buildings, and waterworks [2, 8]. Bagh-e Babur suffered significant damage during the Afghan Civil War (1992–1996) [3]. Restoration efforts, initiated between 2002 and 2004, repaired and rebuilt damaged sections of the walls using traditional techniques [3]. Today, the garden attracts many visitors, who come to explore the historic site and relax in nature [2, 23]. The site includes Babur's tomb, a small mosque, pools, and the Queen's Palace [2]. It also hosts cultural and artistic festivals [2].
