This 8.64-acre park provides a space for outdoor activities against the backdrop of Huntsville's oldest and largest cemetery, Maple Hill Cemetery.From 1945 to 1955, the land was a stone quarry. In 1985, it was transformed into a public park. The park features a playground and a pavilion, suitable for families and community events. The open green spaces invite visitors to relax and play.Adjacent to the park is Maple Hill Cemetery, established in 1822. The cemetery spans nearly 100 acres and contains over 80,000 interments. It is the final resting place for five Alabama governors, five U.S. senators, and ten U.S. congressmen. The cemetery was added to the Alabama Historical Commission's Historic Cemetery Register in 2008 and to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.The intertwining of the park and cemetery has led to local legends, including the tale of the "Dead Children's Playground". Some say the playground is haunted by the souls of children buried in the cemetery. Others believe paranormal activity is linked to child abductions in the 1960s.Whether for recreation, historical significance, or ghostly legends, Maple Hill Park offers a memorable experience.
