Wind Creek State Park: Lake Martin's Lakeside Paradise

Wind Creek State Park, encompassing 1,444 acres along the scenic Lake Martin shoreline, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Located just south of Alexander City, Alabama, the park provides public access to the 41,000-acre Lake Martin, a reservoir on the Tallapoosa River known for its clear waters and abundant fish.Originally a private recreation area for Russell Corporation employees, the State of Alabama purchased the land in 1969 with the stipulation that it be renovated and operated as a state park. Wind Creek State Park reopened in 1982 after extensive renovations.The park is particularly known for its extensive campground, boasting 586 campsites, making it one of the largest state-operated campgrounds in the United States.
