Discover more about Pensacola Museum of Art

The Pensacola Museum of Art (PMA) is located in downtown Pensacola, Florida. The building itself has an interesting history, originally built in 1906 as the city's first permanent jail. In 1954, the Pensacola Art Association, formed by the American Association of University Women, leased the building and transformed the former jail cells into exhibition spaces. The building officially became the Pensacola Museum of Art in 1982 and was purchased by the association in 1988. Since 2016, the PMA has been a part of the University of West Florida Historic Trust. The museum's permanent collection focuses on 20th and 21st-century modern and contemporary art, including paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. Visitors can find works by renowned artists such as Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Louis Comfort Tiffany. The PMA also holds collections of European and American glass and African tribal art. The Pensacola Museum of Art offers a variety of exhibits, educational programs, and events throughout the year. The museum aims to promote the understanding and appreciation of art and ideas to audiences in the Northwest Florida region and beyond. It strives to create dialogue between university and community audiences, fostering experiences of joy, discovery, and creativity through diverse perspectives and the transdisciplinary interactions of art, culture, the humanities, science, and technology.
