The Winston County Archives serves as the primary repository for the rich history of Winston County, Alabama. Located in Double Springs, the county seat, the archives is dedicated to preserving and making accessible the records and artifacts that document the lives and experiences of the county's residents. Researchers can delve into over 200 family and surname books, as well as heritage books for all 67 Alabama counties. The archives also houses the original Winston County marriage book, dating back to 1891. In addition to its extensive collections, the Winston County Archives is also home to a museum dedicated to Dr. Thomas Malcolm Blake, a beloved physician who practiced medicine in Double Springs for over four decades. The museum contains original items from Dr. Blake's medical practice, offering a glimpse into the life and work of a dedicated country doctor. The Winston County Genealogical Society also has its materials at the Archives and meets there the third Tuesday of each month. The society helps staff the archives and publishes a quarterly newsletter called the "Trail Tracker".
