Discover more about Point Park

Perched atop Lookout Mountain, Point Park is a unit of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, established in 1890 to preserve the area's Civil War history. The park's strategic location was the site of the Battle of Lookout Mountain in November 1863, also known as the "Battle Above the Clouds," where Union forces successfully captured Confederate positions. Today, Point Park offers visitors a chance to immerse themselves in history while enjoying panoramic views. A paved walking path leads past historic tablets, monuments, and Confederate artillery positions. The New York Peace Memorial, erected in 1907, stands as a tribute to reconciliation between Union and Confederate veterans. Inside the park, the Ochs Memorial Observatory provides sweeping views of Chattanooga and the Tennessee River 1,300 feet below. The Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center, located just outside the park, features exhibits on the Civil War campaign for Chattanooga, including James Walker's 13- by 30-foot painting, "The Battle of Lookout Mountain". Point Park is a destination for history buffs, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking to experience the beauty and significance of this historic landmark.
