    To reach Petrela Castle via public transport, take a bus from Tirana to Petrelë. Buses frequently depart from the Southeast Bus Station or the central bus station in Tirana. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once in Petrelë, walk to Rruga Petreles, a short distance from the bus stop. The walk to the castle is uphill. Bus fare is typically around 200-300 Albanian Lek.

Its origins trace back to the 6th century AD, during the reign of Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, though the structure largely dates from the 15th century. The castle stands 329 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Erzen valley, hills, olive groves, and surrounding mountains.Petrela Castle was part of the signaling and defense network of Krujë Castle; fires were used to communicate between the castles. During Skanderbeg's resistance against the Ottomans, the castle was commanded by Mamica Kastrioti, Skanderbeg's sister. The castle has a triangular shape with two observation towers. Visitors can explore the grounds and enjoy the scenery. A restaurant within the castle offers traditional Albanian cuisine.Open daily, Petrela Castle welcomes families, couples, and solo travelers. It is a popular day-trip destination from Tirana.
