Apollonia Archaeological Park, located 12 km west of Fier, Albania, offers a captivating glimpse into the past. Founded in 588 BC by Greek colonists from Corfu and Corinth, Apollonia thrived as a major city in the ancient world, named after the god Apollo. Its strategic location along the Adriatic coast and the Via Egnatia, a key Roman road, contributed to its growth as a cultural and commercial center. At its peak, Apollonia was home to around 60,000 residents and attracted philosophers, artists, and even Roman emperors. Octavian Augustus, the first Roman emperor, studied here before rising to power.
