Driving
Many mountain passes are accessible by car, offering flexibility for exploring the Albanian landscape. Roads to popular passes like Llogara have been improved, but be prepared for winding and narrow conditions. An International Driving Permit is mandatory. Expect rental rates around €25-40 per day.
Public Transport
Buses and furgons (minibuses) connect major cities to towns near some mountain passes. From there, local transport can be arranged. For example, from Tirana, buses run to Shkoder, a gateway to the Albanian Alps. From Shkoder, furgons can take you to villages like Theth. Bus fares from Tirana to Saranda (a route that passes near Llogara) cost approximately 500-800 Lek (€5-€8).
Taxi
Taxis can be hired for final approaches to specific locations within mountain pass areas, especially from nearby towns or transport hubs. Prices vary, so negotiate the fare before starting the journey. As an example, a private 4WD from Theth to Nderlysa (Blue Eye) may cost €40-€50.
