Grunas Waterfall: A Jewel of Theth National Park

Grunas Waterfall, often referred to as Theth Waterfall (Ujëvara e Grunasit), is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the heart of Theth National Park. Declared a natural monument in 2002, this waterfall is a must-see for visitors to the Albanian Alps. The waterfall is located on the western slope of the Thethi valley.The waterfall begins at the foot of the Boshi mountain peak, where it forms a narrow, rocky trough through a limestone slope. The water then plunges from a height of 25 to 30 meters into a blue pond. The water originates from melted snow, making it icy cold. While the water level is often low and not ideal for swimming, a quick dip can be a truly refreshing experience. Be cautious, as the rocks around the waterfall can be slippery.The hike to Grunas Waterfall is a relatively easy, moderate trek from Theth village, typically taking around 45-50 minutes. Starting from the village center, the trail follows the river, crossing a small red bridge. The path then winds through a forest, passing a few houses and cottages. The final stretch involves a slightly steeper climb. Along the way, hikers can enjoy the surrounding scenery, including views of the Albanian Alps.
