Valamara Peak (Maja e Valamarës) is one of Albania's most impressive and isolated mountain destinations. Located in the southeastern part of the country, it lies within the Central Mountain Range, bordering the municipalities of Korçë, Gramsh, and Pogradec. The peak rises to an elevation of 2,373 meters (7,785 feet), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.The Valamara massif is characterized by its rugged terrain, diverse flora and fauna, and numerous glacial lakes. The area is ideal for hiking, photography, and immersing oneself in the tranquility of the Albanian mountains. The mountain range stretches from the Shkumbin Valley in the northeast to the Devoll Valley in the southwest. The Shkumbin River, one of Albania's longest, originates from the eastern slopes of Valamara.The mountain's geology consists mainly of sedimentary rocks dating back to the Early Cretaceous period, with some older Jurassic igneous rocks. The lower parts of Valamara are covered in beech and pine forests, while the higher elevations feature rich summer pastures. Valamara is also a crucial habitat for the critically endangered Balkan lynx.Several trails lead to the summit, with popular starting points including the villages of Grabova e Sipërme and Strelcë. The hike to the top offers a chance to witness the region's unspoiled nature, glacial lakes, and diverse landscapes.
