Muzeu Oriental Bratko: A Glimpse into Asian Art in Albania

Muzeu Oriental Bratko, located on Bulevardi Fan Noli in Korçë, stands as a testament to the vision of George Dimitri Boria, an Albanian-American photographer and collector. Opened in June 2003, the museum fulfills Boria's dream of sharing his extensive collection of Asian art with his homeland. The museum's collection began during Boria's 14 years in post-war Japan as a photographer for General Douglas MacArthur and expanded to include art from various Asian countries and cultures. The exhibits feature a wide array of objects, including traditional textiles, ceramics, paintings, sculptures, and historical photographs dating back to the 1800s. Highlights include a Chinese altar, Japanese women's clothing, an Indonesian sword, and Japanese paintings. A photograph of Boria's mother, framed in gold jewelry, is a particularly poignant piece. The museum itself is housed in a beautifully restored building, adding to the charm of the visitor experience. It serves as a cultural hub, hosting temporary exhibitions and events. The museum was awarded the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2020 for promoting Japanese culture in Albania.
