Spanning 650 meters, the Agios Achillios bridge connects the mainland to the island of Agios Achillios, offering a serene pathway over the waters of Mikri Prespa (Small Prespa) Lake. More than just a crossing, the bridge is an experience, gently swaying and offering panoramic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Agios Achillios itself is steeped in history, believed to be the site of the ancient city of Lyki. The island's main attraction is the ruins of the three-aisled Basilica of Agios Achillios, dating back to the 10th century AD. Built by Tsar Samuel of Bulgaria, it once housed the relics of Saint Achillius. Scattered across the island are other Byzantine churches, including the basilica of the Twelve Apostles, the church of Agios Dimitrios, the basilica of Agios Georgios, and the church of Panagia Porphyra. Today, Agios Achillios is a blend of past and present. Approximately 23 permanent inhabitants reside on the island, coexisting with the historical ruins and natural surroundings. Visitors can explore the island on foot, hike to the highest point marked by a large cross, and enjoy the tranquility of Prespa National Park, a protected wetland of international importance. Birdwatching is a popular activity, with diverse avian species inhabiting the reedbeds.
