Kuzum Baba: Vlorë's Panoramic Shrine

Kuzum Baba is more than just a scenic viewpoint; it's a site steeped in history and religious importance. The shrine is dedicated to Sejjid Ali Sulltan, also known as Father Kuzum, a revered Bektashi spiritual leader believed to be buried here. The Bektashi order, a Sufi sect known for its emphasis on love and tolerance, has deep roots in Albania, and Kuzum Baba stands as one of its most important centers in the country.According to legend, Kuzum Baba was beheaded at the Koçiut Pass but miraculously carried his severed head to the hilltop where the shrine now stands. The original tekke (Bektashi temple) was built in the 1600s, flourishing in the 17th century before being destroyed in 1826. It was later rebuilt and served as a refuge during World War I. Although closed during the communist era, it reopened in 1992 and continues to be a significant place of worship.Today, visitors can explore the shrine, admire the traditional Albanian architecture, and soak in the serene atmosphere.
