The Statue of Constantine the Great stands as a tribute to the city's historical significance and cultural heritage. Constantine the Great was a Roman Emperor who rebuilt the ancient city of Cirta in 313 AD after it was destroyed. He renamed it Constantine, and it became a significant city in the Roman Empire. The statue itself is a bronze replica of a marble statue located in the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. It was created by French sculptor, Lucian Brasseur, and arrived in Constantine in February 1913. For a while, it was stored in a grain warehouse before being moved to Bab El Kantra, opposite the train station, near the cliffs of the Rhumel River valley. In 1923, the statue was moved to its current location due to the risk of landslides at the original site. The statue serves as a reminder of Constantine's lasting impact on the city. Visitors are often captivated by the intricate details and sheer scale of the monument. The statue provides a backdrop for photographs and a deep dive into the city's storied past. The surrounding neighborhood is rich with cafes and shops.
