Overview
Les Balcons d’Oran is a captivating tourist attraction that provides sweeping views of Oran and the Mediterranean Sea. Situated on bluffs overlooking the sea, the promenade provides a unique vantage point to appreciate the blend of Oran's architecture and historical landmarks.Visitors can stroll along the walkways, taking in the fresh sea breeze and the sounds of the waves. The area serves as a cultural hub, where tourists can experience authentic Algerian life, with local vendors often showcasing traditional crafts and foods.The construction of the promenade, approximately 40 meters above the water, was initiated by Abbé Lambert, the 33rd Mayor of Oran (1934-1941). However, the idea of a grand urban balcony was conceived earlier in 1891 by Emile Cayla, a civil engineer and Mayor of Oran, who drew inspiration from Nice's Promenade des Anglais.
