This wadi (or valley) stretches for about 80 kilometers, heading generally southward until its headwaters reach the top of the plateau. The rock art in Wadi Djerat is spread over more than 30 kilometers and represents one of the most important collections of prehistoric art in the world. These engravings and paintings offer insights into the lives, beliefs, and environments of the people who inhabited this region from prehistoric times through the early centuries of the Christian era. The art is classified into different periods, each reflecting changes in fauna, climate, and cultural practices. These periods include the Bubalus period, the Bovidian period (4000-1500 BC), the Caballine period, and the Cameline period.
