Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

The Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós, a Catholic church in Anyós, La Massana, Andorra, is a captivating landmark with Romanesque architecture dating back to the 12th century. Perched atop a hill at 1,307 meters, the church provides panoramic views of the La Massana valley, including the villages of Sispony, l'Aldosa and Ordino. Originally, the church was small, measuring only 5 meters long and 4 meters wide, with walls 0.85 meters thick. Over the centuries, it has undergone several expansions and modifications, with only the apse and north wall remaining from the original construction. The entrance is located on the south wall, and a small bell tower sits on the west wall. Inside, visitors can admire a 13th-century Franco-Gothic depiction of the Last Supper in the apse, surrounded by 16th-century paintings. These paintings portray Saint Michael weighing souls and Saint Christopher, the church's patron saint, in various scenes from his life. A 16th-century altarpiece dedicated to Saint Christopher further enriches the church's interior. In the past, the church was adorned with Romanesque murals, but they were removed in the 1930s. In 2023, a mural featuring Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and Mary, mother of Jesus, which was taken from the church in the 1930s, was rediscovered in a private French collection. Cars are blessed at the church, as Saint Christopher is the patron saint of drivers and travelers. The church was designated as a Cultural Heritage of Andorra asset on July 16, 2003.
