Located on the ground floor of the historic Hostal Valira in Escaldes-Engordany, the museum presents a curated selection of works from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, one of the world's most important private art collections. The collection primarily features 19th- and 20th-century paintings, encompassing diverse artistic movements. While the permanent collection resides in Madrid, the Andorran museum hosts temporary exhibitions, ensuring a fresh experience for returning visitors. These exhibitions often include iconic pieces and collaborate with other museums worldwide, enriching the museum's offerings. The museum itself is housed within the former Hotel Valira, an iconic building notable for its granite architecture, a hallmark of Andorran culture. The honeycomb arrangement of the granite blocks on the façade adds to the building's distinctive character. The museum has been nominated for best European new museum in 2018 by UNESCO and was ranked among the 20 European exhibitions to visit in 2018 by The Guardian. The museum spans 500 m2, with 250 m2 dedicated to exhibition space. The space is fully wheelchair-accessible and boasts the latest advances in museum technology. Interactive displays allow visitors to interact with the artwork, offering additional information and alternative points of view. Visitors can enjoy self-guided tours with audioguides included in the admission price. The museum also offers guided tours. The museum is an active museum, an authentic experience of rapprochement towards art. From February 10, 2023 to January 7, 2024, the museum hosted the exhibition Khrôma, the emotional universe of colors.
