It also connected the lower parishes of Andorra-la-Vella and Escaldes-Engordany with the higher parishes of Canillo and Encamp. Its strategic importance likely spurred its construction as a sturdier replacement for the original wooden structure.The bridge itself is a modest yet elegant work of masonry, stretching 7 meters in length with a single, semi-circular granite arch. The arch's highest point reaches 10 meters above the riverbed. A protective wall, approximately one meter high, lines the bridge.
