Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós, located in the village of Anyós, is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture in Andorra. Constructed in the 12th century, this small church has undergone several transformations, with expansions occurring primarily in the 16th century. Despite these changes, the apse and north wall retain much of their original Romanesque character. Inside, visitors can admire a 13th-century Franco-Gothic depiction of the Last Supper, surrounded by 16th-century paintings illustrating the passage of souls and scenes from the life of Saint Christopher, the church's patron saint. Although original Romanesque mural paintings were removed in the early 20th century, the remaining Gothic and Baroque artwork provides a glimpse into the church's evolving artistic heritage. A mural featuring Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and Mary, mother of Jesus, which was removed in the 1930s, was rediscovered in a private French collection in 2023. Standing at an altitude of 1,310 meters, the church offers panoramic views of the La Massana valley and nearby villages such as Sispony, l'Aldosa and Ordino. The church has been recognized as an asset of cultural interest by the Cultural Heritage of Andorra since 2003. Saint Christopher is the patron saint of drivers, and the church holds a blessing ceremony for vehicles every July 10th, a festivity of cultural interest.
