Sant Romà de Vila: A Romanesque Jewel in Encamp

Sant Romà de Vila stands as a testament to the cultural and historical richness of Encamp, Andorra. This captivating Catholic church, celebrated for its Romanesque architecture, provides a serene escape amidst the bustling surroundings of the Andorran mountains.Constructed in the 13th century, the church features a rectangular nave and apse. Although much of the building showcases Romanesque artistry, the nave's adornments reveal numerous repairs and renovations throughout its history, including some Baroque elements. Notably, the original semicircular apse was replaced with a quadrangular chancel in the early 20th century. The church also has a gabled bell tower with a Gothic bell.Inside, a reproduction of the Romanesque altar front is displayed. The original, a unique example of Romanesque wood painting in Andorra, is now housed in the National Art Museum of Catalonia in Barcelona.
