Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

The Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós, located in the village of Anyós in La Massana, Andorra, is a captivating example of Romanesque architecture. Constructed in the 12th century, this small church offers visitors a glimpse into Andorra's rich cultural and religious heritage. Originally, the church was quite small, one of the smallest in Andorra, with a nave measuring just over 5 meters long and 4 meters wide. Over the centuries, the church has undergone several expansions and modifications, with only the apse and north wall remaining largely unchanged from the original construction. The south and west walls were completely rebuilt, and the nave was expanded, giving the church its current dimensions. Inside, the church features notable murals. While the original Romanesque murals were removed in the 1930s, the church now houses a 13th-century Franco-Gothic representation of the Last Supper in the apse. Surrounding this are 16th-century paintings depicting the weighing of souls by Saint Michael and scenes from the life of Saint Christopher, the church's patron saint. A 16th-century altarpiece dedicated to Saint Christopher further enriches the interior. Standing at an elevation of 1,307 meters, the church offers panoramic views of the La Massana valley, including the villages of Sispony, La Massana, and Ordino. The church was listed as an asset of cultural interest in 2003.
