    Discover more about Cal Pal

Cal Pal, nestled in the charming village of La Cortinada, is more than just a museum; it's a journey through time, offering a unique perspective on Andorran identity, origins, and heritage. This stately home, with documented roots stretching back to the 14th century when it was known as the Escoter inn, has been carefully preserved to showcase traditional Andorran life.Originally built in 1347, Cal Pal was donated to Joan Pal d'Ordino in 1435 by Bernat Escoter, a vicar, and his mother, Raimunda, with the stipulation that it remain within the family and be permanently inhabited. For centuries, it served as the Pal family residence, later passing to the Torres family in the 17th century. In 1955, Antoni Torres Armengol, the last resident, sold the house to Serafí Reig Ribó.Architecturally, Cal Pal represents a classic example of Andorran vernacular design. Throughout the 16th and 19th centuries, the house underwent several expansions, including the addition of a third section, a dovecote, and two covered galleries on the southeast facade. The northeast facade features striking carvings of human faces on the roof-beam ends. After being closed for over 15 years, Cal Pal reopened as a socio-cultural space in October 2018, thanks to businesswoman Maria Reig and her grandson. Today, it hosts exhibitions and events that explore Andorran identity, history, and cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the museum's exhibits, which feature artifacts, photographs, and interactive installations. Guided tours are available in Catalan, Spanish, French, and English, providing deeper insights into the house's history and significance.
