Discover more about Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós

The Església de Sant Cristòfol d'Anyós, a Romanesque church in Anyós, La Massana, offers visitors a glimpse into Andorra's rich cultural and religious heritage. Constructed in the 12th century, the church has undergone several transformations, with the apse and north wall retaining most of their original Romanesque features. The church's architecture showcases simple yet elegant lines, arched windows, and a welcoming wooden interior. Inside, you'll discover a blend of artistic styles, including a 13th-century Franco-Gothic depiction of the Last Supper and 16th-century paintings illustrating the passage of souls and scenes from the life of Saint Christopher, the church's patron saint. Originally, the church was adorned with Romanesque mural paintings, but they were removed in the early 20th century. However, a fragment of these original murals, depicting Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and Mary, was rediscovered in a private French collection in 2023. Standing on a hill overlooking the valley of La Massana, the church provides a panoramic vista of the surrounding landscape, including the villages of Sispony, La Massana, and Ordino. The church has been recognized as an asset of cultural interest by the Cultural Heritage of Andorra since 2003. Every year on July 10th, a special blessing ceremony is held for vehicles, as Saint Christopher is the patron saint of drivers and travelers.
