Discover more about Kilamba, de fronte ao N3

Kilamba, or Quilamba, is a large housing development and the administrative center of Belas Municipality, about 30 km (18 miles) outside of Luanda. Built by the China International Trust and Investment Corporation (CITIC), it was initially seen as a solution to Angola's urban housing crisis following the Angolan Civil War. The development began in 2008 as part of President Jose Eduardo dos Santos' pledge to build a million new homes. Designed as a modern city, Kilamba features hundreds of colorful apartment blocks, schools, retail units, and wide roads. It aimed to house up to 500,000 residents and was hailed as a symbol of Angola's booming economy. Although it was once labeled a "ghost town" due to low occupancy, Kilamba has transformed into a showcase for the new Angolan lifestyle, with an estimated population of over 100,000. Visitors can experience the blend of modernity and local culture, explore residential buildings, shopping centers, and recreational spaces, and enjoy the lively atmosphere with open markets and street vendors offering traditional Angolan dishes. Kilamba's parks and public squares also provide serene spaces for relaxation.
