Car
If you're traveling by car, start from the town of Sesriem, which is the closest access point to the Namib-Naukluft National Park. From Sesriem, take the C27 road towards Sossusvlei. After about 60 kilometers, you will reach the entrance to the park. There is an entrance fee of approximately 80 Namibian Dollars (NAD) per person, so make sure to have cash ready. Once you enter the park, continue for another 5 kilometers until you reach the parking area for Sossusvlei. From the parking area, you can either walk or take a 4x4 shuttle to Big Daddy Dune, which is approximately 1.5 kilometers away.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, catch a shuttle or bus from Windhoek to Sesriem. The journey takes about 4-5 hours and costs around 500 NAD. From Sesriem, you can book a guided tour that includes transportation to Sossusvlei and Big Daddy Dune. Ensure you confirm this in advance, as tours are often limited. The guided tour will take you directly to the parking area at Sossusvlei, from where you can walk or use a shuttle to reach Big Daddy Dune.
Walking
If you prefer walking, after arriving at the Sossusvlei parking area (whether by car or shuttle), you can hike to Big Daddy Dune. The walk is about 1.5 kilometers over sandy terrain, which can be challenging but offers stunning views along the way. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, bring plenty of water, and take sun protection as the area can get very hot.
