Middle Ground Trail, All Saints Travel Guide

The Middle Ground Trail is a 2 km hiking path that follows the crest of the hill between English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour, offering hikers elevated coastline views and a peek into Antigua's rich history. The trail is considered to be of moderate difficulty, with a 100m elevation change.As you traverse the trail, you'll encounter multiple historic sites, including the One Gun Battery, an old barracks area, and Fort Cuyler. These remnants offer a tangible connection to the island's colonial past and its strategic importance in the Caribbean. The trail ends at Pigeon Beach, a popular spot for relaxation and swimming.The path is well-maintained by the Royal Tot Club of Antigua. Hikers should wear appropriate footwear due to loose rocks and the steep, exposed terrain. The landscape is dominated by dry forest, with low-growing scrub brush and cacti providing shade. Be sure to bring water, as the majority of the hike is exposed to the sun.In addition to its historical significance, the Middle Ground area holds cultural importance as Antigua's first Black settlement, where enslaved and free Africans labored in the Dockyard.
