Discover more about Stingray City Antigua

Stingray City Antigua provides an unforgettable encounter with the ocean's most graceful inhabitants. Located off the northeast coast of Antigua, near Willikies, this unique attraction allows visitors to wade into shallow, crystal-clear waters and interact with dozens of Southern Stingrays in a safe and controlled environment. The experience begins with a short speedboat ride to a shallow sandbar, where the stingrays congregate. Knowledgeable guides provide instructions on how to safely interact with the rays, which are accustomed to human presence and are not held in captivity. Visitors can pet, feed, and even hold the stingrays, marveling at their velvety skin and gentle nature. Snorkeling gear is provided, allowing guests to explore the surrounding coral reefs and observe colorful tropical fish. Stingray City was established in 2002 and has since become one of Antigua's most popular tourist destinations. The stingrays are drawn to the area by the practice of tour operators providing them with squid, their favorite food. This has created a symbiotic relationship, where the rays benefit from a reliable food source, and visitors can observe and interact with these magnificent creatures up close. The guides often know the stingrays by name, adding a personal touch to the experience. While some raise concerns about the ethics of feeding wild animals, Stingray City Antigua provides a unique opportunity to connect with nature and learn about these fascinating creatures in a responsible and sustainable manner.
