Getting There
Car
If you're driving, the most common route to Aconcagua is from the city of Mendoza. Start by taking Route 7 (Ruta Nacional 7) westbound from Mendoza. This scenic drive takes you through the Andes foothills and will take approximately 2.5 hours. Follow the signs to Aconcagua Provincial Park. Once you reach the park entrance, you'll need to pay an entrance fee, which is approximately ARS 1,500 for adults. After entering the park, continue driving to the Horcones parking lot, which is the closest parking area to the trailhead.
Public Transportation
From Mendoza city, you can take a bus to Aconcagua Provincial Park. Look for a bus company that offers routes to Puente del Inca, which is a common stop for visitors heading to Aconcagua. The bus ride will take around 2.5 to 3 hours and costs about ARS 400 to ARS 600. Once you arrive at Puente del Inca, you can either hike the remaining distance to the park entrance or take a taxi if available. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary.
Hiking
If you're already within Aconcagua Provincial Park and wish to hike towards the peak, begin your journey at the Horcones trailhead. The trek to the base camp (Plaza de Mulas) is approximately 18 kilometers and takes about 6 to 8 hours of hiking. Ensure you have adequate supplies, including water, food, and proper gear. It's recommended to acclimatize before heading towards higher altitudes. There are no additional costs for hiking, but make sure you have your park entrance ticket with you.
