The totems are set against the breathtaking landscapes of Nahuel Huapi National Park, offering stunning mountain vistas and shimmering lakes. The Mapuche people, who call the island of Victoria in Nahuel Huapi Lake the “Island of the Jaguar,” have a deep connection to this land. The totems, created as part of the INSITU – Arte en el Espacio Público Bariloche program in 2012/13 by Chilean artist Bernardo Oyarzun, symbolize the Mapuche man and woman, facing east, from where life originates according to their culture.
