Discover more about San Telmo Market

San Telmo Market, or Mercado de San Telmo, is a Buenos Aires institution located in the heart of the historic San Telmo district. Inaugurated in February 1897, the market was originally designed to supply fresh produce to the waves of European immigrants arriving in the city. The market's architecture is a key part of its charm. Designed by architect Juan Antonio Buschiazzo, the building features an Italianate facade and a large interior space with metal columns, arches, and a grand dome, all reminiscent of the late 19th century. In 2000, it was declared a National Historic Monument. Today, San Telmo Market is a bustling hub where locals and tourists mingle. You can find everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to antiques, vintage clothing, handcrafted goods, and unique collectibles. Food stalls offer a taste of local and international flavors, while coffee shops, like the renowned Coffee Town, provide a place to relax and soak in the atmosphere. On Sundays, the market expands into the surrounding streets for the San Telmo Fair, adding even more vibrancy to the area.
