The falls cascade down approximately 40 meters (130 feet) in three main drops, surrounded by lush subtropical forest, part of the last remaining blocks of the Alto Paraná Atlantic forests. The name 'Monday' comes from the Guarani language, possibly meaning 'stolen water'. Historically, the falls were an important site for the pre-Hispanic Guarani people.
