Cerro Arco, Mendoza Travel Guide

Cerro Arco, rising northwest of downtown Mendoza, is a favorite for hikers and paragliders. The peak is named after Antonio Arcos, a Chilean military engineer who contributed to the geographical survey of the Andes. The 4.5 km trail to the 1,640-meter (5,380 ft) summit provides stunning vistas of the city, surrounding plains, and the Andes foothills.The hike, typically a 3.5 to 4-hour round trip, is accessible year-round and is considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for families and beginner hikers. The trail is an old access road for radio towers at the summit. While the initial part is a gentle gravel road, it becomes steeper with switchbacks, offering a good workout. The summit features radio antennas and offers views of Mendoza and the surrounding area.Cerro Arco is not only a hiking destination but also a training ground for mountaineers preparing to climb Aconcagua.
